Smoke Day in Pokémon GO with Tanhel – Here’s how to take advantage of it

In Pokémon GO, the Smoke Day with Tanhel and other Steel and Psychic-type Pokémon starts this Sunday, March 14. We will show you how to make the most of the event.

What is a Smoke Day? This event happens periodically in Pokémon GO. A Pokémon is the focus, which will be attracted by smoke for several hours. Other monsters of the same type will also appear.

This time it’s all about Tanhel. The monster is of the Steel and Psychic type, so other Pokémon of this type will also appear.

Smoke Day with Tanhel – Start Time and Bonuses

Remember these times: The Smoke Day occurs in hourly intervals. Each hour, the spawns change, and other Pokémon appear in the smoke. The exact overview is here:

• 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM: Psychic Pokémon appear in the smoke
• 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM: Steel Pokémon appear in the smoke
• 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM: Psychic Pokémon appear in the smoke
• 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM: Steel Pokémon appear in the smoke
• 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM: Psychic Pokémon appear in the smoke
• 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM: Steel Pokémon appear in the smoke

These Steel Pokémon are available: Niantic has already provided a small overview. During the Steel hours, the following monsters will appear alongside Tanhel: Alolan Diglett, Magnetilo, Stollunior, Bronzel, and Schilterus.

These Psychic Pokémon are available: There’s also an overview for this. Besides Tanhel, the following Pokémon appear during the Psychic hours: Natu, Girafarig, Meditie, Puppance, and Somniam.

This exclusive move is available: If you evolve a Metang into Metagross during the event, it will learn the charge move Meteor Mash. This was the exclusive move of Metagross during the Community Day with Tanhel in 2018.

You should secure the move because it makes Metagross by far the best Steel attacker. Furthermore, it is a solid all-rounder and useful against many Pokémon.

How to Make the Most of the Smoke Day

Make these preparations: Consider beforehand how many hours you want to play during the Smoke Day. The smoke attracts one Pokémon per minute, so you can catch at least 60 monsters per minute. If you want to play the full 6 hours and don’t have a PokéStop nearby to turn regularly, you should have at least 360 balls in your inventory.

Keep in mind that you may also discard balls or a Pokémon may break free. If you want to play the full duration, we recommend having a cushion of 450 balls.

Also, make sure you have enough smoke in your inventory. With the smoke for one PokéCoin, which is available at the start of the event, you should have 5 additional smoke items.

This is how you should play: If you only want to play for a limited time, you should at least play one Steel and one Psychic hour. That way, you can check all spawns at least once.

Otherwise, you don’t need to stress during the event. Catching one Pokémon per minute is quite easy, and you can even watch a movie in the meantime. You can enjoy the event comfortably from home.

Which Shinies are available? The main Pokémon of the event, Tanhel, is also available in shiny form. In the past, it has been observed that at least this Pokémon appears slightly more often as shiny during the Smoke Day.

However, you might also get lucky with other Shinies. They are not among the rarest Shinies in the game. Confirmed Shinies that will appear during the event are:

• Tanhel
• Natu
• Meditie
• Puppance
• Alolan Diglett
• Magnetilo
• Stollunior
• Bronzel

Which hour is more worth it? There isn’t a real standout in either of the two hours. You should primarily decide during which hour you need more Shinies. For example, if you already have all the Psychic Pokémon mentioned here as shiny, you can focus on the Steel hour instead.
