SMITE takes care of cooperative play – boss battles with waves of enemies will be added soon.
The Best of Both Worlds
SMITE does some things differently than the “usual” MOBAs, such as the camera, which is positioned directly behind the character, creating a much more dynamic gaming experience. However, even more will change in HiRez’s god game soon – there will be a cooperative game mode. With patch 3.17, the new mode “Xing Tian’s Mountain” will be introduced, where 5 players compete against the AI. However, it’s not about beating enemy gods, but rather completing actual PvE tasks, similar to various MMORPGs.
Each group of 5 players teams up and starts at level 13 with a solid 7500 gold in their pockets to purchase items. After that, they face “randomly selected enemies,” with the team having only a limited time to defeat the boss successfully. If they succeed, they proceed to the next round, where another, more challenging boss appears. To help players gauge how well they perform compared to others, there is, of course, a dedicated leaderboard.
Mein-MMO thinks: SMITE is trying to expand its audience by bringing in players who enjoy cooperative activities and are not as fond of pure PvP. Whether the plan works and if the game mode delivers what cooperative fans hope for remains to be seen. The coming weeks will certainly provide insight.
