Skyrim is regularly re-released. The latest version of Bethesda’s evergreen title is the Anniversary Edition. This comes with a lot of additional content and solid performance on almost all platforms. Only on the Switch does the new version cause problems. And quite serious ones at that.
Update from 21.10.2022, 10:33 AM: According to Reddit, the Skyrim Anniversary Edition on the Switch has now received an update that has fixed most of the issues that were occurring (via Reddit).
Original article: That Bethesda, the creators behind Elder Scrolls Online, will probably keep re-releasing their evergreen Skyrim until the end of all days is almost as certain as the Amen in church. After all, there are now up to 17 different versions of the eleven-year-old evergreen (via Screenrant).
The latest version of the game is the Anniversary Edition, which was recently released on the Switch, but was already available on all other popular platforms last year.

What distinguishes this from earlier versions of Skyrim? In addition to a slightly enhanced graphics and all previously released DLCs and Creation Tools, the Anniversary Edition also offers a number of new and exclusive content, such as a fishing mini-game. Thus, the Anniversary Edition is essentially a complete version of the popular game.
However, there is a catch that is quite significant: The Anniversary Edition does not run smoothly on the Nintendo Switch at all. And this is surprising because, for instance, one user has already shown that Elder Scrolls Online runs without issues on the Switch.
These are the problems with the Anniversary Edition on the Switch
There are a whole series of bugs that did not occur in previous versions of the game.
This is almost curious in itself. Because one would assume that with an eleven-year-old game, which has been re-released so often, new bugs and performance issues would gradually cease to appear.

What problems are there? The Anniversary Edition is struggling with annoying frame-rate drops and performance difficulties.
In some areas of the open-world game, the targeted standard of 30 FPS is not even close to being reached.
These frame rate drops are particularly severe in the city of the Thieves Guild “Rifton”. There, only about 15 FPS are consistently reached. The game is practically unplayable at this point.

Additionally, the game seems to crash or freeze at regular intervals (via Reddit). Furthermore, some users are speculating whether the rendering distance has been reduced – at least in handheld mode on the Switch (via Reddit).
These are the reactions to the problems of the Anniversary Edition
Upon the release of the Anniversary Edition on the Switch, there was a particularly loud outcry. Because whether on Reddit, YouTube, or Twitter; everywhere people are complaining about the performance of the game.
In addition to the performance, the price of the game is also criticized. Because for an eleven-year-old game, the Anniversary Edition on the Switch at a price of €70 is extremely expensive. And even if you already own the previous version of the game without the update, you still have to pay an additional €20 for the extra content.
There is no simple solution to the annoying problems of Skyrim
How can the problems be solved? Currently, the only way to fix the problems of the Anniversary Edition is to delete the game and then reinstall the vanilla version of the game. This should make Skyrim run smoothly and without issues as it did before the update.
This is therefore a clear indication that something went significantly wrong with the update.
After the significant outcry, Bethesda has finally spoken up as well. On their own support page, the studio stated that they are aware of the issue and intend to address it soon. However, this has unfortunately not yet happened. One can only hope that the development team will quickly get the problems under control.
