The world of Tamriel has become one of the most popular and well-known gaming worlds on PC and consoles PlayStation and Xbox over the years with role-playing games like Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind. A son honors his deceased mother in the “The Elder Scrolls” series with a very special change, for which he sought advice from the modding community.
How does the person honor their mother? A player named “VIIVII” honors his mother in 3 Elder Scrolls games with a mod:
For Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind, the mod “In Memory of my Mom” can be downloaded: In each of the iconic role-playing games, a shrine appears that gives the player buffs to health, magicka, stamina, or values.
Son tries to cope with his mother’s death
What is the story behind it? The player, named Eric and living in the USA, says:
My mother Teneele passed away in January. She was only 46 years old, and since then I have been trying to cope with her loss.
As a way to cope with his mother’s early death, he saw it as a way to immortalize her in her favorite games. But since he had no idea about mods, he turned to the community and quickly found help to modify shrines in the 3 Elder Scrolls games.
The player says his mother introduced him to the world of Elder Scrolls and familiarized him with it. Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind were her favorite games.
In his attempt to honor her, nothing great came of it, just a modified Mara shrine in Skyrim with an inscription that simply says: “She can live in every adventure I undertake in Tamriel.”
In Morrowind, it became a shrine of the “Imperial Cult” with a note, in Oblivion a “Priory Altar of the Nine,” and again a note that the mother is present in every adventure.
Where are the shrines located? VIIVII says he had something in mind. His mother suffered throughout her life from “resetitis”; she always started games over. Therefore, the shrines are placed at the beginning of each game.
VIIVII says:
The funniest thing about making the mods for my mother is that she never played with mods herself, and now her memory will be a mod.
VIIVII concludes his description of the mods: “Anyway, that’s all. If you want to add screenshots, feel free. The most important thing I can tell you is: Call your parents and tell them how much you love them. You never know how much time you have left.”
The mod has now been downloaded about 200 times across all 3 games. It’s somehow a nice thought that the mother also lives on in the games of others.
