Battleforge was one of the first representatives of online collectible card games, but the concept did not really take off at the time of its release in 2009. In late 2013, the game was discontinued by publisher Electronic Arts.
However, fans have been working for some time on a revival of the game. Battleforge Reborn was already well advanced last summer. A beta was just around the corner. But then it became silent again around the game.
Now the developers have returned and announced that they will release the game under the name Skylords Reborn. After negotiations with Electronic Arts, the company agreed to allow the developers to publish the game – however, not with the original name.
Developers are allowed to earn money
Additionally, EA made some further demands. While the team is allowed to develop new content, all DLCs must be free. Nevertheless, EA wants to allow the developers to earn some money with the game. After all, operating the servers, providing services, and developing new content will cost money.
However, the team has not yet disclosed how exactly this monetization will look. One way will be donations.
New content is planned
With this deal, it is now possible to operate the project beyond the original goal. This goal was only to restore Battleforge to the state it was in before the servers were shut down. Now the team can even develop additional content. The developers also promise that they will never turn the game into a pay-to-win or pay-to-play product.
The team intends to announce soon when a release of Skylords Reborn can be expected.
