Skeleton Forts are basically the raids of Sea of Thieves. We take a closer look at what awaits brave pirates.
The recently released pirate MMO Sea of Thieves (Xbox One & PC) offers a lot of fun on the high seas at first glance. However, it can also get quite dark and creepy at times when skull clouds suddenly appear and the raid calls!
One of the in-game activities in the pirate adventure are the Skeleton Forts, where a horde of enemies and great treasures await. However, these treasures still need to be brought onto your own ship.

Skeleton Forts as Raids or Public Events
Active Skeleton Forts are announced in Sea of Thieves by a huge skull cloud. Since you are not alone on the high seas, speed is now of the essence: All players nearby can also see the cloud and are just as eager for the waiting treasures as you are.
The forts are usually located on remote islands that are overrun by cursed skeletons as soon as they are active. Waves of enemies must now be defeated until the main villain shows up: the Skeleton Captain.
Once this powerful skeleton boss is defeated, it drops a key that opens a huge treasure chamber. But beware! Usually, there are so many treasures that even a full crew cannot bring them all onto their ship in one go. And the opponents are just waiting for their chance…

Constant Danger from Other Pirate Crews
As previously mentioned, all other players nearby can also see the skull cloud and may soon head to the island.
If you are lucky, other ship crews might help you get rid of the skeleton plague. Ideally, the other players are satisfied with a portion of the loot. Perhaps the temptation is too great and your newly acquired allies will betray you.
In the worst case, you have to fight the skeletons alone, only to find yourselves surrounded by loot-hungry human opponents after your hard work.
Here in the video, you can see what happens when the skull cloud appears on the horizon:
