The Steam Summer Sale is ending, but many users are confused and unhappy. As a small compensation, Valve is giving away 5,000 games to participants.
The Steam Summer Sale 2019 did not go as Valve had hoped in many cases. This year’s community game was a race, the Grand Prix.
Players could join one of five teams. However, only a few understood how it all worked. This was particularly frustrating because there was a chance to win a reward for winning the race.
What could players win? If players joined the winning team, then there was a chance that they would receive the first game from their wishlist for free.
Many used this to place “Cyberpunk 2077” at the top of their list.
What was confusing about the race? There were several problems:
- Players could “boost” their team by using certain boosts. They earned necessary points by playing specific games from their Steam library and collecting achievements.
- They could also slow down other teams with items to gain an advantage.
- However, how it all worked was unclear. Clear and understandable rules were lacking.
Nevertheless, “Team Corgi” was particularly successful and won continuously in the first days. Valve even had to adjust things so that Team Corgi wouldn’t dominate so much. In the end, they still won.
Valve apologizes and gives away 5,000 games: Valve apologized for the “unexpected twists” during the race and promises to learn from the criticism for next time and significantly improve the event. They want to communicate the mechanics more clearly.
As compensation, they decided to randomly select 5,000 players who participated in the “Grand Prix” of the Summer Sale 2019. Each will receive one game from their wishlist for free within the next 48 hours.
Are you one of the lucky winners? Did you understand the Grand Prix of the Summer Sale? Or are you also quite dissatisfied with the whole development?
The Summer Sale is still ongoing, by the way. We have some great deals for you:
