On June 15, the new superhero movie The Flash will hit theaters. MeinMMO editor-in-chief Leya Jankowski has already seen the new DC superhero film at a special screening. A major highlight for Leya is the new Supergirl, played by Sasha Calle.
A week ago I attended a special screening of The Flash in Munich, organized by our sister sites Moviepilot and Filmstarts. Here I was able to see the film before its theatrical release.
Right away: I really liked The Flash.
Compared to Matt Reeves’ The Batman with Robert Pattinson or James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, the film does not quite reach that level for me. It has too many slow moments, and at times the CGI is painful – but The Flash makes me laugh, and the seriousness never takes a backseat for a cheap gag.
A week later, I am still thinking about the tragedy of the story and what the protagonist Barry Allen has gone through. Maybe I shed a tear.

Supergirl Instantly Sparks Childlike Excitement in Me
But the real star of The Flash for me is the new Supergirl. Do you remember the first time you saw the Power Rangers, He-Man, or Catwoman on TV and just thought “Wow”?
That’s exactly how I felt when I saw Kara Zor-El on the big screen. She instantly claimed every single scene with her mere presence.
At first, I was sad when I heard that Henry Cavill was leaving DC. Although I am certainly happy for him personally that he can realize his dream of a Warhammer adaptation. Cavill is for me the perfect embodiment of Superman.
With Supergirl played by Sasha Calle, I did not miss Henry Cavill for a minute. The 27-year-old captures the stoic majesty that conceals deep pain perfectly. When she shows her raw emotions, I get instant goosebumps.
Sasha Calle is known so far as Lola Rosales in the CBS soap The Young and the Restless. On her Instagram, the actress shows pride in portraying Supergirl. The Flash is her first role in a feature film.
I really hope we get to see this Supergirl more often!
On June 15, The Flash will be released in theaters, and then you can see for yourself. I can only recommend watching the film in theaters. Because even though the CGI sometimes fails miserably, The Flash also has really good action sequences that just belong on the big screen.
