In Shroud of the Avatar, player counts are increasing since the release, but Richard Garriott seems to have a problem with the critics.
After producer Starr Long assumes that the critics of the upcoming MMORPG Shroud of the Avatar belong to an organized group that wants to destroy the game, designer Richard “Lord British” Garriott now refers to them as “indoctrinated”.
On March 27, the MMORPG Shroud of the Avatar is set to launch, which aims to provide not only sandbox gameplay but also a single-player story.
Intense criticism accompanies the development, as players hoped for something different, many are not convinced by the quality, and according to some fans, the developers place too much emphasis on the item shop and collecting additional money instead of developing a “decent” game.
Shroud of the Avatar has more players, critics are “indoctrinated”
This criticism evidently gnaws at the developers. Recently, producer Starr Long explained that an organized group would be trying to speak badly about the game and ruin it.
Now, Richard “Lord British” Garriott, founder of the developer studio Portalarium and the creative mind behind the game, stated that the player counts are rising. In the same sentence, he also mentioned that even fewer “indoctrinated” people are trying it out. With this designation, he essentially agrees with Starr Long.
By “indoctrination,” it is meant that people are specifically fed information to manipulate them.
When it comes to player counts, an increase is indeed visible. However, there are no official numbers known, but one can only see those available on Steamcharts. Here, the average number of players online simultaneously is 153.6. That’s about three percent more than the previous month.
February showed an increase of 9.6 percent compared to January. Here it should be noted that the total number of players is somewhat higher since, according to the developers, Steam only makes up about 35 percent of the total population in the MMO.
Just play it yourself
Probably many backers of the Kickstarter campaign want to play it now with the upcoming release to see what has become of the game. If you want to do this now, you can check out the Free2Play Trial of the MMO. If you like it, you can simply upgrade to the full version by purchasing. And at the release on March 27, we will see if the mix of sandbox MMORPG and single-player story works in Shroud of the Avatar.
The fans, especially those who have invested a lot of money into the game to benefit from real-money trading, remain loyal to the title. During the last telethon, when more money was raised for development, they donated $110,000.
