Things are not going well for the upcoming MMORPG Shroud of the Avatar.
Few players, an irritated community, poor reviews on Steam, and many negative comments on various internet sites – this can make a developer lose their good mood. The launch of the Russian language version a few weeks ago also didn’t go well. On the large Russian community site goha.ru, players do not speak particularly positively about the MMO.
Is the community made up of trolls?
In the official SotA forum, strict moderation is enforced. Here, the game is intended to be presented as positively as possible, making the forum a sort of beacon in the dark, evil night of negativity. However, there is still some criticism from time to time. One thread made fun of the strict moderation. The thread is titled “We are the Avatars”. In SotA, players are referred to as Avatars in the world.
Starr Long, producer of the game, responded to the thread and stated that the title was incorrect. It should be “We are the Trolls”. Whether this was meant as a joke is unclear, as there is no smiley in the post.
This did not sit well with many. Some took it as a joke, while others were perplexed that a developer would stoop to such a remark and essentially (since there was no smiley) insult the community.

A survey on satisfaction
Meanwhile, a survey about the game is currently taking place, conducted by publisher Travian Games in collaboration with developer Portalarium. This survey focuses on player satisfaction with SotA. It revolves around quests, the story, dialogue, and combat. Anyone can participate in the survey. However, will player satisfaction still be positive now, after the statement that community members are trolls…?
