The Twitch streamer Micheal “shroud” Grzesiek reacted to the ban of his colleague xQc. He stated that he did not expect a ban and that such a suspension is the best scenario for big streamers.
This is what happened:
- Last weekend, xQc participated in the Twitch Rivals tournament in Fall Guys along with other major streamers. There, he used stream sniping which gave him an unfair advantage.
- After the incident, streamers like shroud and the Twitch troublemaker Tyler1 called for a ban on xQc.
- A few days later, xQc was banned – he was suspended from Twitch for 7 days.
The ban caused a big stir in the streaming scene. After all, xQc is currently the largest streamer in the world with thousands of viewers. Even shroud, who has vocally advocated for a ban, reacted to this.
shroud compares ban to a vacation
This is how shroud reacted: In a YouTube video, shroud revisits the entire topic surrounding the ban. There he says:
I didn’t actually think he would receive a ban. Many people said it was disproportionately exaggerated. I believe it was the opposite – I thought it hadn’t been exaggerated enough, and I thought Twitch would just let it go.
Afterward, he further explains this statement and claims that no other Twitch partner had done something like this before. He then adds:
The only people who stream snipe are non-partners, and then they get permanently banned and that’s it. I bet Twitch didn’t even know what to do.
He refers to the recurring rumor that major streamers are above the law on Twitch and can do whatever they want. In fact, some bans are somewhat controversial, as other streamers have not been banned for similar actions. The Twitch CEO even commented on this once.
This is what shroud thinks about the bans of major streamers: shroud claims that bans for major streamers are not a problem. As long as these bans are not permanent, they often come back even stronger, says the streamer.
As an example, he mentions DrDisrespect, who was temporarily banned for filming in a public restroom. After that, he became even bigger, as he garnered a lot of attention from the ban.
He then said: “Would it really bother me if I got banned? Probably not, because a ban doesn’t really mean anything. You take a little vacation, and then you’re back in the swing of things.”
shroud even says that it is the “best scenario” for a streamer since it’s just forced vacation and then you can return to work normally.
shroud himself is not known for bans on Twitch. However, he spent some time on Mixer and only returned to Twitch this year:
