Actress Milla Jovovich portrays protagonist Alice in the Resident Evil films. However, her character never made it into any of the games. The actress sees this as a missed opportunity, as an appearance by Alice would have made perfect sense in the games.
Why did Alice never appear in one of the games? When director Paul W. S. Anderson had the opportunity to make films based on the popular video game franchise, he opted for an alternative version of events set in the world of Resident Evil.
While well-known characters like Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, or Ada Wong appeared in the films, none of the characters from the films made it into any of the games. As a result, the film character Alice never had the chance to make an appearance in any of the Resident Evil games.
A Bursting Dream
Why would an appearance have made sense anyway? There are indeed characters in the Resident Evil universe who have used viruses to gain superhuman abilities and strengthen themselves. For example, Albert Wesker used them to acquire abilities such as excessive strength, speed, and regeneration.
Nevertheless, it was not intended to blend the universes of the films and games too much, as, even though well-known game characters appeared in the films, they only served as supporting characters and did not play significant roles.
This is what Milla Jovovich says about it: The actress playing Alice regrets that her character never made it into any of the games. Because even though the universes are supposed to remain separate, the games also borrow some elements from the films. She stated in an interview (via Game Rant):
They use pieces from the films in the games, but for some reason, they don’t want to bring my character, Alice, into the game… That’s a shame because I played the game years ago with my little brother, and it would be so cool to be in a game.
Whether Alice will ever make an appearance in a game set in the Resident Evil universe is uncertain, but also unlikely, given that this opportunity has not been utilized over the years. Thus, an appearance of her character in a video game will likely remain an unfulfilled dream in the future as well.
