The MMORPG Shards Online has come a long way since it started its Pre-Alpha in late 2015.
The year 2016 brought a follower PvP system, a group and guild system, the ability to fish, the necromancy skill, a minimap, a completely revamped user interface, new resources, a crime system, and player-managed merchants. For newcomers, quests were introduced to guide them into the game. Additionally, there are three new areas to explore: The Outlands, the Catacombs, and for founders, the Przm Lounge.
The world is getting bigger
In the coming year, the developers plan to accelerate development significantly. A parallel universe is planned that specifically targets European players. However, it will be possible to travel back and forth between the universes.
. Even though the game is already quite advanced, the developers are not yet ready to proceed to Steam. For that, the world needs to be about 25 times larger, mounts should be available, and archery must be implemented beforehand. Furthermore, the modding systems are currently being improved. Players will be able to set up their own servers with their own worlds and modify these worlds “on the fly”, i.e., while playing.
Craftsmen should feel important
Additionally, they are currently working on making the fighting against monsters and exploring dungeons not the only lucrative activities. Craftsmen should also feel like an important part of the game world. There will be rewards for crafting and gathering resources in the future that are just as valuable as the treasures adventurers find in dungeons. As an example, it was explained that fishermen can pull crates from the water while fishing that contain valuable treasures.
In 2017, the developers of the MMORPG Shards Online have a lot planned. An alpha starts on January 13.
