Shadow Stones should be the most important new item and feature with Season 6 in Fortnite. But they are already broken and had to be disabled. They made players invisible – and that permanently.
What are Shadow Stones? The item “Shadow Stone” arrived on Thursday with the major patch new to Fortnite. True to the Halloween theme of Season 6, they were supposed to make Fortnite a bit more mysterious and eerie.
The idea was:
- The stones appear in “eerie, corrupted” locations on the map
- Players can use them to achieve a shadow form – which lasts for about 45 seconds
- In shadow form, players are invisible as long as they remain still, but they cannot attack
- When players move in shadow form, they become ghostly
- By pressing the attack button, they can float through walls and ceilings
The site Polygon summarizes it with: The stones turn you into Reaper from Overwatch.
Shadow Stones Cause Bad Invisibility Glitch in Fortnite
Here’s the problem: As the site Kotaku reports, there was a nasty glitch with the Shadow Stones.
If players were downed after touching a Shadow Stone and then revived by a friend, they became permanently invisible.
Invisible, they could wreak havoc in Fortnite.
Even before that, the item was causing trouble, as players could use it to teleport to previously unreachable locations.
This is how Epic responds: The developers of Fortnite have temporarily disabled the item while they repair it. The item should return to Fortnite at some point. However, it is unclear when exactly.
In recent weeks, Fortnite frequently had issues with movement items, such as golf carts. Apparently, this tradition continues.
Not the only problem: The Shadow Stones are not the only new feature that Epic Games had to disable at short notice. Some visual animations have also been temporarily removed from the game. The breasts of the new heroine “Calamity” wobbled when she was happy.
Epic called it an embarrassing mistake that had been overlooked. It seems that a prankster slipped in the wobbly breasts. The Shadow Stones appear to be just a “normal glitch”.
