V Rising offers you different ways to play thanks to many skills. You can deal damage, support with healing, or keep enemies in check as a tank. Here you can find a tank build. MeinMMO shows you skills, equipment, playstyle, and why tanking as a vampire is really fun.
What kind of build is this? We show you a strong tank build that focuses on the shield skills of V Rising and on physical attacks.
This gives you a very mobile tank that heals itself, attracts the attention of enemies, and can parry strong attacks.

How do I play the build? With the shield build, you are always at the front line, trying to block as many attacks as possible with your shields and deal damage with your physical attacks.
Every parried attack causes damage or distraction for the opponent. The ability “Wall of the Damned” is perfect for this. Almost every direct hit on your shield creates a skeletal warrior that deals damage and attracts attention.
With the right timing and the attack patterns of the enemies in mind, you can often create 2 or 3 skeletons that cause action on the battlefield. This is particularly helpful solo, as not all enemies rush at you. But even in a group, you relieve your team members of some work.
The more enemies, the more damage your barrier abilities deal to opponents who want to harm you. Or worse – your scrolls.
Your travel ability “Blood Veil” and the blood type “Barbarian” ensure regular healing. When you use the “Blood Veil,” the next hit on an enemy returns 5% health and is even a critical hit.
With Barbarian Blood, you also gain some life steal, and every hit with the primary attack gives you back health. If you have really good blood, there is also a chance for even more healing and a buff to your movement speed.
Axe and scythe are excellent for this playstyle. Both weapons have a weapon ability that allows you to hit slightly distant enemies like summoners or mages who are hesitant to approach you or tend to stand still for a few seconds to attack.
Whether axe or scythe depends on your preferences: the axe offers you a dash attack as a secondary skill, a sort of jump forward that also works well for escaping. The scythe has a 360° attack that knocks back enemies.
It is similar with your second magical ability and the ultimate – choose according to your preferences.
With the “Spectral Guardian,” you are briefly almost invulnerable, and the “Merciless Strike” stuns enemies and can also be a good escape.
The choice is difficult for the second barrier. Hits either fire ice projectiles (Frost Barrier) or set enemies on fire (Chaos Barrier).
Be aware that with this build you completely rely on your physical abilities. Damage for you comes from the strikes and abilities with scythe or axe – abilities based on spell power are less effective.
Personal Conclusion: Tanking in V Rising is Wild
Why is tanking fun in V Rising? I like to play the tank. Whether in MOBAs like SMITE or in hero shooters like Overwatch – I find the constant balancing between aggression and restraint very satisfying.
Especially when you manage to gain an advantage for your team.
Often, tanks deal little damage, and the class is rather thankless when it comes to selecting an MVP of the game. Not so in V Rising.
You still have high damage, emphasize movement speed, and have nearly impenetrable shields. Such shield abilities often reduce your movement speed in other games. Not so in V Rising.
Despite the shield, you maintain full speed, which, along with the active combat system, allows for extremely fun tanking. The travel abilities additionally ensure that you can quickly dodge and even heal yourself.
This high mobility and the required timing when using shield and travel abilities give you excellent opportunities for your tank gameplay.
It takes practice, but once you get it right, you feel strong, important, and sometimes even invincible. Quite different from many other titles with the tank role.
