In Fortnite, a dataminer has likely discovered the next feature. A leak suggests that players will soon be able to gift skins in the Fortnite shop. So, it’s time to be good.
This is the new feature: Essentially, it’s just a gifting option in the game’s shop. When a player buys a new item, such as a skin, in the Fortnite cash shop, they can then decide:
- am I buying the item normally for myself
- or do I want to gift the item to a friend I am connected to via the Epic launcher
This is what it looks like:
Then, you can write a personal message, such as: “Here is the cuddle agent for you, because you are an incredibly cuddly cuddly bear, dear Jürgen!”
Is this official? No, this is not official yet. A dataminer, The1Jaren, managed to unlock this system in their version of the game. This suggests that the “gifting system” may be close to release.
The gifting feature has been discovered for Fortnite before, in June 2018. However, it did not come at that time.
When could the gifting feature go live? A possible date was set for October 21. Screenshots were taken on October 13, showing that friends in the list can receive the gifts eight days later.
No one knows yet if it will indeed happen. That would be a Sunday, which is rather unusual for Epic.
However, it can be assumed that Epic will implement the gifting system in Fortnite before Christmas 2018, as it would ring the cash register significantly.
This is what lies behind the system: It’s a logical consideration. Epic makes money when skins are sold. When players gift each other skins, Epic earns more money.
It’s actually rather surprising that such a system is not yet in the game:
- In League of Legends, the gifting option has existed for years – especially popular during Christmas.
- Pokémon GO has made great experiences strengthening the “social component” through friend codes.
Pro tip: You might want to be nicer to your gaming friends in the coming days than usual. This increases the chance that you will receive a nice skin from them as a gift at Christmas.
The next patch has already announced this monstrosity in Fortnite:
