With Season 6, Diablo 4 received a new event and special items as seasonal mechanics. Initially, players found the event particularly boring, but now some want the content to be permanent, but improved.
What kind of content is that? Season 6 brought a new event to Diablo 4, the Realm Walker. These are large enemies that spawn somewhere on the map every 15 minutes and then wander through the area. In between, smaller monsters and elite enemies appear.
Finally, three towers spawn that the players must destroy so that the Realm Walker is attackable and a portal to the “Boiling Realm” opens. In that dungeon, you can then choose a reward that awaits you at the end. Additionally, it drops opals that increase your chances of specific loot.
Many players felt that the event took too long: The Realm Walker was too slow, and the monster spawns were too few. Blizzard improved the event, made the Realm Walker faster, and he can also spawn treasure goblins. Now some players think that the event and the opals should stay permanently in the game. However, some have specific ideas about what still needs to be changed.
The Realm Walker as a World Boss?
In a Reddit post, Sweetie_EU writes that the season mechanic should remain in the game. The opals are great, but they should be craftable. The Realm Walker mechanic is “nice,” but it needs improvement.
What needs to change? In the comments, users discuss the event and the opals. Generally, it seems that some want to keep the opals. However, they should drop randomly, for example, from chests from the “Whispering Tree,” and not be tied to an event. Currently, the opals are too rare – and the Realm Walker should spawn in two zones, writes flyingupvotes.
Some players seem to be bothered that the Realm Walker is an escort quest. Nobody really likes that, writes Nukemi. heartlessphil suggests that the Realm Walker could be turned into a world boss and made more “epic” – like a wandering world boss. ironfishh writes that the Realm Walker should spawn in the Hell Flood.
And Tris375 believes that the Realm Walker event is a decent group content in the open world, just like the Blood Maiden. “I think the rewards from the boiling realm could be better, but it provides variety compared to nightmare dungeons and the pit […]. I once had three treasure goblins in it,” he notes.
k4kkul4pio also thinks that the mechanic should stay. It may be one of the slower activities in the game, but it is still fun, he writes. He believes that anyone in such a hurry that they won’t spend a few minutes on the seasonal content to get the boosters they apparently want doesn’t need them anyway.
Whether Blizzard will adjust the season mechanics again and/or even permanently bring them to Diablo 4 is uncertain. Currently, there seems to be a lot of criticism from the community in general, not just regarding the event but also fundamental mechanics in the game. With Season 6, Blizzard revised the crafting of Mythic Uniques and made it easier to obtain rare items. However, players are far from thrilled: Diablo 4 has made it easier to get the best items with Season 6 – now players are demanding the old system back
