During E3 2021, Sea of Thieves announced the story “A Pirate’s Life”. A crossover with the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise. In the trailer, we see Captain Jack Sparrow and many contents that MeinMMO editor Patrick Freese is already looking forward to.
What was presented? During the E3 stream by Microsoft and Bethesda, the theme for Season 3 of Sea of Thieves was introduced. This includes the new DLC “A Pirate’s Life”, which brings you new stories.
The main points briefly summarized:

- The update will be available for free for all players
- This counts for players on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows 10, Steam, and via Xbox Game Pass
- The release is on June 22, along with the start of Season 3
Trailer and contents of “A Pirate’s Life” in Sea of Thieves
Trailer: As a big fan of Sea of Thieves, the trailer struck a chord with me. It begins with a storm on rough seas. Ships sail towards an island. The narrator speaks of a “new danger” that comes across the sea. While the crew investigates a deserted ship, the iconic scene starts where we see Jack Sparrow CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow for the first time.
Because Jack stole a treasure, a danger followed him. And this danger must now be stopped. In this context, the name “Davy Jones” should of course not be missing. Those who have seen the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies can probably never forget his tentacle-beard face.
With his humorous nature, Captain Jack Sparrow creates a nice contrast in the trailer to the great danger posed by Davy Jones and his undead crew on their ghost ships.
What’s included? Five Tall Tales filled with secrets and puzzles are brought by the update into Season 3 of Sea of Thieves. Initially, you free Captain Jack Sparrow from his prison, who has stolen the greatest treasure of the pirates.
I already love the Jack Sparrow update
Let’s be honest, a collaboration with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is just a perfect fit for Sea of Thieves. It combines wonderfully because both titles offer a lot of action while always stimulating the humor of the players.
I can watch the movies every year and never lose my enjoyment of them. I regularly return to Sea of Thieves when there are new updates. And this combination of update and the iconic characters from the movies can only be good.
I am incredibly curious about what the story offers and whether it can keep me engaged for many hours again. It’s clear: if it’s only remotely as good as I imagine it to be, then it can only be great. I can entertain myself for hours just with Jack Sparrow.
