The pirate adventure “Sea of Thieves” ended its one-week closed beta on Wednesday, January 31. Although the beta was restricted to invited guests (pre-order customers and selected players from the Insider program), the testing phase achieved impressive numbers. More than 300,000 pirates counted themselves among the testers of the Closed Beta.
Over 800,000,000 gold earned by pirates
Despite a difficult start, the developer studio Rare does not have to hide from the numbers of the closed beta of Sea of Thieves.
User “Gowans” from the Resetera forum published a photo from the headquarters of Rare showing the summary of the Closed Beta. According to this summary, a total of 314,021 players played Sea of Thieves during this testing phase.
Together, they completed 402,488 quests, earned 871,180,805 gold, and spent over 2,000,000 hours in the game. 35,882 pirates were online at the same time at most.
Players preferred 4-player ships, 2-player were the losers
The summary shows that 4-player ships (Galleons) were preferred. Here, pirates either played in a premade group or were matched with random other players to explore the seas together. However, this had its pitfalls. For those who annoy in Sea of Thieves will simply be locked in the hold. This was often experienced by players in 4-player groups.
In second place among the most popular ships was the 1-man boat (Sloop). Many lonely pirates ventured out and set off into the adventure alone. The least number of players were found on the 2-man boats.
Large audience on Twitch and Mixer
The game recorded another success with viewers. On the live streaming services Twitch and Mixer, the game ranked first with an average of 104,240 viewers. On Twitch, up to 269,000 viewers watched simultaneously.
