If you have always wanted to play Hannibal Lecter, you can do that now in the game SCUM. The Steam hit brings some gruesome and useful items in the latest patch: Among them, a mask made of human flesh. We look at the patch notes and the fans’ reactions.
Scum likes to be extreme: The survival game SCUM throws violent criminals onto an island and lets them fight for survival. The game has a penchant for the absurd and extreme.
When the player base recently surpassed 1 million units sold, every player was gifted a golden Desert Eagle. The developers placed the D-Eagle in the players’ avatars’ behinds. They then could fish the weapons out of the toilet on their next bathroom visit.
There was already some fuss when real templates were used for tattoos in the game. The Nazi symbols on the tattoos had to be removed.
New patch brings fresh content: The latest patch, which came to SCUM on Steam yesterday, includes a lot of new content:
- An improvised pistol. The self-made pistol can be crafted with basic survival skills
- An improvised shotgun – for this, intermediate survival skills are needed
- And an “improvised mask”, which everyone can craft – and that apparently consists of human flesh. However, one can also use animal skin, as PC Gamer knows. With a mask made of human flesh, “Hannibal Lecter” escaped from police custody in “The Silence of the Lambs” (via YouTube)
- Additionally, a night vision device
- Exactly 30 new caves
- And taunts, with which you can signal to opponents that you really find them stupid or that you will take them down soon
There will also be quite a few “normal gameplay changes” such as client improvements, comfort improvements, bug fixes with the patch. Additionally, the developers promise to work on the cheating problem with this patch. The many cheaters in SCUM have already been heavily criticized in the Steam reviews.
Fans are satisfied, want more features
This is how fans are reacting to the patch: The fans are generally happy with the patch (via reddit). They seem generally pleased with how SCUM is currently developing. Fans are looking forward to “self-manufactured weapons” and the mask made of human flesh invites some comments: “Please apply the lotion.”
However, SCUM is still in early access and fans have a lot on their wish lists.
This is what fans wish for from future patches:
- an improvement of the FOV (field of view setting)
- women for more diversity in the world
- and vehicles – they might actually come soon.
