The streaming embargo for the upcoming online shooter SCUM has been lifted and it has already landed in 2nd place among the most popular streamed games.
Many fans of online shooters are looking forward to SCUM. It’s no wonder that many interested viewers tuned into the streams on Twitch after the streaming embargo was lifted on August 27.

SCUM is already well-received before release
SCUM has not yet been released: The online shooter SCUM will be released on August 29 through Steam in an early access version. Nevertheless, viewer numbers on Twitch have already exploded. Streamers received early versions and were able to stream live from the shooter. All others can join in tomorrow when they acquire the title on Steam.
2nd place in the most-watched gaming streams: As soon as the streams went live, viewer numbers skyrocketed. At times, there were over 200,000 views. Yesterday, SCUM even reached 2nd place among the most-watched gaming streams. For many, the online shooter could become a substitute for PUBG.
- Many hope that the shooter will successfully mix battle royale combat with survival action
- SCUM plays a bit slower than PUBG, as the play area does not shrink. You are in an area that is 144 km² large. Up to 64 players can meet here. This alone means more emphasis is placed on exploration
- Moreover, RPG elements are important. You need to improve skills that play a crucial role in the fights. It’s not just about your skill, but also about tactically improving your character
- Survival is also essential. You need to eat and drink, but watch out not to become too overweight
- You must try to be the last survivor in a devious game where prisoners fight each other to gain freedom
- You build a base that you also have to defend
- SCUM plays somewhat like a mix of DayZ and PUBG
Viewers are excited: Even though it is still clear that this is not a final version, SCUM is already well received by the viewers of the live streams. Positive reactions in the streams range from “Looks good” to “Best game!” to “PUBG killer”.
However, there are also voices that sound a bit more cautious. On one hand, because there are still bugs, and animations seem “not finished” yet, and on the other hand, because some survival online games have shown that the community is a crucial factor for success. If it becomes too toxic, no matter how good the game is, players will turn away.
How this will be with SCUM, we will only find out once it runs for a while. The early access start is then on August 29 via Steam.
