The shooter MMORPG Global Agenda: Free Agent was gone from Steam for years and even the servers were dead for a while. Now the first game from the Smite developers is back and is even receiving good reviews on Steam.
What happened to the game? Global Agenda: Free Agent has had an exciting development. In 2010, the game launched as the large and first project of Hi-Rez Studios, the same developers behind Smite and Paladins. However, Global Agenda could not convince in the long run.
Just 14 months after the release, the developers changed the payment model of the title to Free2Play to become more accessible. But the big turnaround did not happen. Between 2014 and 2015, the title completely disappeared from the Steam platform. However, the game’s servers remained online until 2018 before they were finally shut down, and no one could play Global Agenda anymore.
A planned Global Agenda 2 was also canceled in 2012. Since then, things have been quiet about the game. In 2018, the news came that the last servers would also be shut down and that the game would not only die on Steam, but would be completely taken offline.
A petition from fans wanting to bring the title back failed with only 31 signatures. Apparently, the sci-fi MMO was simply not meant to be.
What is new? Surprisingly and without prior announcement, Global Agenda has been back since February 1, 2022, exactly 12 years after its release. At least partially. Because while fans report that the game can be downloaded and played, many complain that some services are not functioning and that login issues occur repeatedly.
Additionally, the game is listed as hidden on Steam. This means that you cannot find it when searching for Global Agenda. But if you click the link to the shop page, it works, and you can at least download the game.
According to a note on Steam, it is a request from the publisher that is the reason why the MMO cannot currently be found and does not appear in the search. According to fan statements, nothing has been changed about the game itself. It is simply back without any announcement.
The community loves the game – After all these years
How are the players reacting? Global Agenda receives exceptionally good ratings on Steam. The overall reviews of the title are 81% positive. Even more interesting, however, are the ratings over the last 30 days. Here, the title fares even better with 91% good ratings.
However, Global Agenda does not have a very large community. You can also tell by the fact that these 91% come from a total of 37 reviews. It is also notable that a large part of the reviews comes from people who have played the game before and invested well over 1,000 hours.
Only three reviewers from the last 30 days (as of February 22) have played less than 100 hours. Of these, two are positive and one is negative.
What do the fans say? You can find some old fans of the title in the comments and reviews who wish that Hi-Rez would resume the development of Global Agenda:
- As Sidoniss writes: ‘In 2022, it’s actually not worth playing anymore. Nevertheless, I would like to leave a good review here, because maybe HiRez will finally make Global Agenda 2, that would be really cool.’
- Also, BAMMIN writes: ‘A great game that definitely needs a remake or a comeback. The community is great and the game is just too good to go away.’
- iShayne is simply happy and writes after 5,541 hours: ‘The game is back on Steam, the servers are online again – come back Agents, there’s work to do! The best game that Hi-Rez has ever made is back!’
What kind of game is this? Global Agenda is a sci-fi MMO shooter that focuses heavily on PvP and grinding. The game has no level restrictions, and despite the Free2Play model, it is possible to obtain all items in the game without spending real money. The colleagues from GameStar tested the game back at launch.
Similar to New World, you fight for control over areas in an open world, only as an agent in 2155. There are various PvE content such as dungeons and raids for 4 to 10 players.
The game also included PvP content. This came in the form of open-world PvP zones, 4v4 and 10v10 modes. A guild vs. guild mode is also present in the game, and in the ‘Double Agent’ mode, you have to fight against both players and NPCs in PvPvE.
Did you play the game back then and are now happy that it is back? Or will you give Global Agenda 2022 a chance for the first time? Feel free to let us know in the comments here on MeinMMO.
