In Fortnite: Battle Royale has recently introduced an extremely strong sword in the game. This took many participants of a high-stakes tournament by surprise and resulted in complete chaos.
On December 11, 2018, the first day of the finals of the major tournament Winter Skirmish took place. The tournament is equipped with a prize pool of one million dollars. So it’s a lot of money for the best players who have qualified.
New weapon comes to the servers with no preparation time: However, on December 11, the Update 7.01 was released on the servers and also applied to the tournament. The biggest change of the patch was the new sword Infinity Blade. The blade is an overpowered weapon and the participating pros hardly had any time to deal with it.
Complete Chaos at the Tournament
How one player slaughtered his way to the top: Since hardly any of the participating pros wanted to miss out on the potential advantage of the sword, there were fierce battles for the blade. In the end, one player managed to prevail.
The player Psalm got his hands on the blade at the end of the game and went to work. In the ever-shrinking storm circle, his opponents could not escape, and he ruthlessly mowed them down. Even the fortifications typical in the endgame were effortlessly smashed by the blade.
Player wanted to demonstrate his point: In the end, Psalm had a massive number of kills and led the leaderboard with an astounding 17 points. In a statement, the winner said: “Sorry guys! I just had to show how ridiculous the sword is.”
Pros are upset about Epic’s update policy: While Psalm can celebrate his victory despite his misgivings, other pros are clearly frustrated. Player Bizzle states: “I can’t believe I spent all my time in Fortnite and then they drop 2 updates right before a major tournament. Huge loss of respect for Fortnite!”
Avery from Clan FaZe also finds the sword absolutely unfair. The sword and the planes may be nice for casual players, but have no place in competitive games. He even goes so far as to demand that Epic should repeat the tournament round and revert the patch.
This is what Epic says: So far, Epic has not commented on the sword and the discontent among the pros. There has only been a list of known bugs and issues. The next round of the tournament finals starts today, December 12. It will be interesting to see if Epic disables the sword here.
