Fans of space online games are eagerly waiting for Dual Universe, as it represents a sort of competition to Star Citizen.
The first pre-alpha for the space game has now launched, attracting 2,500 players from the start. This is a very good start that pleases the development team. However, later on, several million players are expected to inhabit the vast universe that the game world of Dual Universe represents.
A sandbox with unprecedented possibilities
In Dual Universe, all players operate on the same server, which is expected to lead to a massive population later on. Essentially, it is a sandbox that you might compare to EVE Online. You are completely free in what you want to do in the universe. You can mine and sell resources on the many planets or you can work as a spaceship builder, maybe building ships so good that players come from everywhere to buy your ships.
The Minecraft principle should ensure that you can build structures anywhere, even complete cities or huge space stations that you construct according to your ideas.
Moreover, you can reach anything you see. For example, if you spot a moon in the sky of a planet. So, you build a spaceship with the resources you find everywhere and fly to that moon. There you see a space station and fly over to it. On the way, you spot another planet in the distance that has caught your interest. So, you want to fly there as well, land, and explore the landscape.
Space battles, guild wars, and more
Space battles are also possible, as well as guild wars that organizations can wage for control over entire planets. The now-launched pre-alpha is accessible to all backers of the Kickstarter campaign with Gold+ level and offers a first insight into the online game.
The release date of the pre-alpha for Dual Universe was announced this August. Until September 7, players had the opportunity to acquire the Gold Founder Pack to join the game.
