Schalke 04 lost its last professional game in LoL. After the Summer Split 2021, Schalke sold its spot in the professional league LEC of the League of Legends to a Swiss team. Schalke’s last match was another defeat against Fnatic. It was the tenth loss in a row. After the sale was finalized, nothing went well for Königsblau.
This is the situation:
- The club Schalke 04 had acquired the team “Elements” in May 2016 and thus also the license to play in the professional LEC league. This is a league based on the “franchise” system: there are no relegations or promotions – anyone who wants to play in the league must buy a license.
- However, due to the relegation of the football team in 2021 and a crushing financial crisis due to Corona, the club urgently needed money. They sold the license to compete in the LEC to a team in Switzerland. Starting in 2022, Team BDS will play on the spot currently occupied by Schalke.
- Since it became known that the team was really being sold, nothing went well for Schalke. After 10 consecutive losses, Schalke finishes the LEC at the bottom of the table. Previously, however, the team had been doing quite well and was close to being able to compete internationally several times.
Schalke finishes last in the LEC
This was how bad the league was this time:
- Schalke was the weakest team in the LEC during the Summer Split 2021. They played 3 -15 and lost 10 games in a row. The penultimate place is also occupied by a German team. SK Gaming is in 9th place with 5 -13.
- Just a year earlier, the team looked like one of the big winners in the Spring Split 2021. Back then, Schalke played 9 – 9 and finished 4th in the regular season. Even in the playoffs, they secured 4th place, leaving a team like Fnatic behind.
- In recent years, Schalke had sniffed the third place in the LEC multiple times. Such a placement in the summer would have been enough to qualify for the LoL Worlds: a goal that players and fans of every LoL team are passionate about.

What was the break?? When it became clear that Schalke would sell the license, the air was apparently gone. They sold the midlaner Felix “Abbedagge” Braun to the USA for about one million US dollars. In addition, they benched the previously strong jungler, Gillius.
The player intended to be the central figure of the team Broken Blade was able to make strong impacts in the Spring Split, but in the summer, he could not sustain a strong performance.
This was the last game: In the last game, Schalke suffered a defeat against Fnatic. Their midlaner Nisqy turned it up and went 7/0/9. The gold lead of Fnatic was huge and the game ended after 34 minutes.
