Gamers are competing with scalpers for graphics cards. However, those looking to resell graphics cards are likely facing significant issues. No one seems to want those expensive graphics cards.
Already during the presentation of the RTX 4080, Nvidia was criticized for the price of the new graphics card being far too high. And upon release, prices rose even further. Currently, you would pay at least 2200 Euros for an RTX 4090 (via geizhals.de).
Scalpers probably thought it was a great idea to resell 2000-Euro graphics cards with a hefty markup. At times, the prices on eBay for the RTX 4090 were over 4,000 Euros.
But now, scalpers are not only stuck with their graphics cards because no one wants to buy them, but retailers also don’t want to take them back.
Some scalpers justify their “work” by saying that they can afford a living with your money:

What is the current situation? It is no surprise that the RTX 4080 is not selling well. With rising prices and high inflation, few are willing to invest thousands of Euros in a graphics card.
The online magazine videocardz explains that so-called scalpers currently have significant problems selling their graphics cards. Neither at inflated prices nor at the suggested retail price are gamers willing to pay scalpers for their GPUs.
What is the problem now? Scalpers are now considering returning the purchased graphics cards to retailers. However, retailers do not seem to like this, as videocardz reports. Some retailers are now removing the option to return the graphics card.
For example, the retailer Newegg states, “Return for refund within: non-refundable,” which means “there’s no money back.” More and more sellers are following this trend.
What does it look like in Germany? In Germany, the situation is somewhat different, as it is legally excluded that buyers are not allowed to return their goods. This also applies to scalpers who want to resell the goods expensively and are now failing:
Not only the high prices currently speak against purchasing a new RTX 4080 or RTX 4090. MeinMMO explains what you should pay attention to instead if you plan to buy a new graphics card this year. Because besides the 4000 series, there are still plenty of more sensible options:
