The Twitch streamer and LoL esports player Tolkin wanted to advance the reputation grind in Silithus for Sauercrowd… and as a result, lost everything in WoW Classic Hardcore.
What is behind the grind in Silithus? In the high-level zone, the faction Circle of Cenarius roams, providing you with quests and special rewards. Normally, these are only available at a later stage in the lifecycle of WoW Classic, after the Molten Core has been cleared.
However, the hardcore server of Sauercrowd already offers the Silithus content and thus access to epic gear and crafting plans, which can be significantly helpful in the upcoming raids. The grind is time-consuming, and a certain dwarf plays an important role.
What about the dwarf? The dwarf goes by the name Captain Blackanvil and has to be summoned through a conversation first. Theoretically, one can receive field service papers during this quest, which are needed for the grind. Practically, however, a monstrosity of the Zoraswarm appears simultaneously, attacking the captain. The flying insect is elite and level 60.
Thus, the player’s task is to eliminate the insect before Blackanvil meets his end. It is advisable to bring reinforcements for this. With good gear and/or the right class, however, one can also master the challenge solo.
“If I die, I die”
What was Tolkin’s plan? With countless bandages, fabrics, armor sets, and logistics tasks, Tolkin set off to Silithus with his warlock to increase reputation with the Circle and summon Captain Blackanvil. A Sauercrowd comrade offered his help as a healer in Discord, but his character was actually still too low for Silithus.
Tolkin then decided to try it solo, even though he himself noted that the risk of dying was high: “I’ll summon him now, screw it. […] If I die, I die.” Only after summoning the captain did he remember that he had the farmed materials from dozens of guildmates in his backpack.
Tolkin then spread curses and ailments on the elite insect, sent the voidwalker for support, and hoped for the best. A few seconds later, the dwarf’s hit points were already nearly at zero and the voidwalker defeated. Tolkin realized: “This isn’t going to work.”
Of course, Sieglinde has also reacted to Tolkin’s hardcore death on YouTube:
Without tanking NPCs and companions, the flying beetle came straight for Tolkin’s warlock. He tried to manage the situation with his fear spell. Normally, the spell is even the best tool to take down the elite solo. Unfortunately, Tolkin had previously cast the Curse of Recklessness on the opponent to significantly lower its armor.
A side effect: with the curse, one ignores fear effects. To get the fear spell through and thus survive the situation, Tolkin would have had to cast another curse first to overwrite Recklessness. However, the experienced LoL player did not know that. His warlock lay defeated in the sands of Silithus after a few hits (Source: Twitch).
Tolkin’s reaction: “I’m dead with all materials. I’m dead with all materials. I’m so sorry. […] I’m so sorry for the mats of others.” At least: since Tolkin had no time the following weekend, he wasn’t scheduled for the first raid in the Molten Core.
