Cleansing Debuffs is More Important Than Damage
In the Sauercrowd roster, there is only one druid. However, when facing the first boss Lucifron, the raid has to deal with two debuffs that quickly afflict the entire raid: Impending Doom (causes high damage after 10 seconds) and Lucifron’s Curse (increases spell costs by 100 percent).
The druid can cleanse curses but not quickly enough to remove Lucifron’s Curse alone in a timely manner. The good news: mages can also cleanse curses. The bad news: As experience shows, many mages ignore their cleansing duties because they prefer to deal damage.
This can quickly lead to a wipe at Lucifron and later also at Gehennas (Boss Number 3, inflicts Gehennas Curse, which reduces healing received) and Shazzrah (Boss Number 6, inflicts Shazzrah’s Curse, which increases magic damage).
One way to deal with this: Mages and the druid are assigned fixed groups that they must prioritize for cleansing.
The second debuff Impending Doom is not a curse but a magic effect. Paladins and priests can and must remove it – they are typically more aware of this in their healing role than mages.
CAUTION: The debuffs do not disappear when Lucifron perishes. Affected players need to be cleansed even after that. Otherwise, Impending Doom can transport a few players to the spirit healer even though the fight has already been won.
