One of the major advantages of the flying ornithopters from Dune: Awakening is actually that you don’t have to move directly over open sand areas and thus have peace from sandworms. However, “Shai-Hulud”, another name for the sandworm, finds ways to still catch you.
Why are you not safe even in the air? This is shown in Trummer’s video on Reddit. An Assault Ornithopter is seen hovering high above a spice field in the deep desert and suddenly is taken down from the air by a sandworm shooting up from the ground.
The sudden attack is just as devastating as on the ground: The entire contents of its inventory as well as its equipment are lost forever. “Shai-Hulud” should apparently not be underestimated even in a supposedly safe ornithopter.
