Sandbox-MMORPG New World announced by Amazon – A new AAA-MMO hope?

It has been known for some time that Amazon Game Studios is working on games. With New World, a sandbox MMORPG has now been announced.

New World takes place in a fictional version of America in the 17th century. Fictional, as there are supernatural elements. What exactly these look like has not yet been revealed, but apparently storms are supposed to play a role that drastically affects the land and poses a danger to the players. There will also be supernatural beings and monsters. Apparently, you are conquistadors arriving in the new world to conquer it.

A large sandbox with many possibilities

New World is an MMORPG. You are in the game world with thousands of other players. It is supposed to be a sandbox game, which means you determine how you play and who you are. For example, you can engage as an adventurer and explore the wilderness together with others. There are monsters to fight, in order to conquer lands for yourself. It will then be possible to turn the wilderness into a civilization. Whether this also means that one can take up crafting professions to provide adventurers and warriors with the necessary equipment, such as weapons, is not currently known.

However, it is also said that you can venture out alone, which comes with significantly higher dangers. Survival is an important aspect, and especially in wind and weather surrounded by monsters, being alone is not quite as advantageous. PvP also plays a role, as players can choose to become bandits who attack others. So you decide whether you want to act together with others, with whom, or if you prefer to become lawless and make many enemies.

The next big AAA MMORPG?

New World features an interesting Twitch integration. Live events are held regularly during which players can gain achievements and special rewards. Amazon Game Studios has not yet revealed when New World will be released. However, the game will utilize the Lumberyard game engine, which originated from the Cryengine. Currently, there is no footage, just an initial logo. With New World, we could finally be looking at another AAA MMORPG!
