The MMORPG Saga of Lucimia for PC emphasizes PvE and aims to bring many old-school elements into the modern era. It is inspired by Star Wars Galaxies, a game that is still dearly remembered.
What is Saga of Lucimia? Saga of Lucimia aims to be a modern yet challenging MMORPG with purely PvE content. It is still under development. A testing phase is currently ongoing, which is under NDA.
Saga of Lucimia is supposed to offer the following content:
- Meaningful quests
- No predefined classes – players will determine how they play by selecting skills
- A deep crafting system
- Many group challenges that you cannot complete alone
- No PvP elements
- A subscription system
In an interview with MassivelyOP, Tim Anderson, the head of Saga of Lucimia, revealed some details about the MMORPG. Notably, statements about PvE and crafting stand out.
Focus on Groups, but there’s also solo play
How is PvE structured? In Saga of Lucimia, you will head towards the endgame of the game after character creation. The focus is on group content such as dungeons and raids from early on. Through them, the story of the MMORPG will be told, unlike Crimson Desert, where a separate single-player campaign is supposed to be created for that.
However, you are not forced to play in a group.
According to Anderson, you can reach “the cap” by doing everything solo and never working with other players:
You will miss out on a lot of gameplay content regarding the story, the dungeons, etc.
Every time I explained that our game is group-based and that we focus on creating group-based content, that’s exactly what I really mean: the story and the lore.
You can see and experience a lot when playing as a solo or duo player, just like in any other MMORPG out there. And that’s fine for some people; not everyone wants to play dungeons or raids.

However, dungeons are never meant to be completed alone. You will always need teammates to master the group content. There will be an LFG tool available where you can search for players throughout the world:
- the group search does not run automatically
- the LFG tool does not teleport you into the dungeon
What is special about Saga of Lucimia? The new MMORPG foregoes experience points and levels. Therefore, quests do not focus on XP, but on new equipment, lore, factions, and new content that is unlocked through this.
According to Anderson, the developers place great importance on an interesting world with a deep story. This story is supposed to be told in various ways and later expanded in addons. However, how this is experienced should be left to the players themselves.
What progression systems are available in the game? Since Saga of Lucimia forgoes levels and XP, it focuses instead on learning new skills or improving existing ones.
Additionally, a great focus is placed on the crafting system.
The ideal group consists of Tank, Healer, DPS, CC and Crafters
What does group play look like? In Saga of Lucimia, your groups can consist of up to 8 players. However, most content is designed to be completed with 5-6 players.
The other spots should be filled with “useful players” according to Anderson. This refers to roles that bring CC or useful tools, as crafters do. The MMORPG team was inspired by Star Wars Galaxies, a sandbox MMORPG that many players enjoyed.
What is special about the crafters? Anderson says that the crafting system should differ significantly from today’s MMORPGs. Crafters should play a much larger role and be an asset to the groups:
When you enter a dungeon, you may encounter puzzles, such as a door that needs to be overcome. Perhaps you don’t have a rogue in the group who can pick the lock, but maybe a blacksmith who has a hammer and chisel to knock the hinges off.
Or you encounter a drawbridge with a frozen mechanism. The only way to overcome this obstacle is to have someone strong enough to free the mechanism, or to have an engineer in the group with the right skills.
In Saga of Lucimia, there will be limited options for fast travel. Therefore, crafters who can repair equipment or provide portals are important. A campfire or bandages, needed for longer adventures in raids, will also be made by players.
Crafters can also play a useful role in damage by bringing alternative abilities like potions, bombs, and grenades.
Moreover, crafters are important for creating equipment, as most gear is supposed to come from the players themselves.
Release planned for 2021
When is Saga of Lucimia supposed to be released? In April, the MMORPG is expected to enter Development Phase 3. Accordingly, advertising for Saga of Lucimia will increase and the shop will reopen.
According to the current plan, a release is scheduled for the 4th quarter of 2021. However, MMORPGs typically have a hard time meeting such set goals:
