AMD has finally revealed the new Ryzen 7000 series “Raphael” Zen 4. AMD is confident and shows that its processors are supposed to be well ahead of the competition from Intel.
On the night of August 29 to August 30, 2022, AMD officially introduced the new Ryzen 7000 processors. In addition to four new processors, information about new features such as DDR5 and the new AM5 socket was also shared.
During the presentation, AMD appeared quite confident and did not shy away from direct comparisons to Intel, even though it never mentioned the name, only referring to it as “the competition.” You can also watch the entire 30-minute stream from last night directly on YouTube:
The Ryzen 5 7600X is said to be faster than Intel’s current fastest processor
What was shown exactly? Overall, AMD introduced 4 processors last night:
- Ryzen 9 7950X, 16/32, 5.7 GHz, 80MB Cache, 170W TDP, 699 US-Dollars
- Ryzen 9 7900X, 12/24, 5.6 GHz, 76MB Cache, 170W TDP, 549 US-Dollars
- Ryzen 7 7700X, 8/16, 5.4 GHz, 40MB Cache, 105W TDP, 399 US-Dollars
- Ryzen 5 7600X, 5.3 GHz, 38MB Cache, 105W TDP, 299 US-Dollars
They also showed the first performance values of the new processors. Here, the comparison with Intel’s i9-12900K is particularly interesting. This is currently Intel’s fastest processor that the competition has on offer.
What did the first benchmark show? In the example of F1 2022 and 5 other games, it was shown at the press conference that AMD’s slowest CPU from the 7000 series, the Ryzen 5 7600X, is already supposed to be on average 11% faster than Intel’s i9-12900K.
However, the figures are based on AMD’s official values. So far, no independent testers have been able to test or try out the processors. You will have to wait until the release for independent results.
Where does the increased performance come from? On the one hand, AMD has improved the architecture of the processor and on the other hand, it relies on a new manufacturing process (5 nm). This leads to a significantly increased performance. However, there is also a disadvantage: The power consumption rises from a TDP of 65 watts in the Ryzen 5 5600X to a TDP of 105 watts in the Ryzen 5 7600X.
When can you buy Ryzen 7000? The Ryzen 7000 series will be released on September 27, in just under a month. There will also be suitable motherboards with AM5 socket and DDR5 memory available at launch.
PCIe 5.0 SSDs are expected to be officially available in stores starting November 2022.
AMD showed a tiny teaser for the new RX 7000 graphics card
Was there anything about AMD’s RX 7000 series? Yes, there was a tiny teaser for AMD’s graphics cards. They showed a few gameplay scenes. However, there were no graphics cards or benchmarks presented. Dr. Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, explained that more information will follow later this year.
