As soon as the PS5 was announced with a price and release date, it was already sold out for pre-order at many retailers. However, unscrupulous resellers are already offering consoles on eBay for nearly double the price.
What is the deal with the pre-sale of the PS5? Due to an epic chaos during the pre-order announcement, the PS5 was largely sold out shortly after the reveal of the PlayStation 5, and many customers were left frustrated and disappointed.
The fear of not getting a console at the release on November 19, 2020, is high among many fans. To profit from this “fear of missing out,” numerous resellers have already listed the PS5 for pre-order on eBay at often absurd prices!
800 to nearly 1,000 Euros for PlayStation 5 with disc
This is how much is being asked on eBay: Some customers who somehow secured a PS5 in the pre-sale are now selling it on eBay, likely hoping for a huge profit. If you currently (September 17, 2020) search for PlayStation 5 on eBay, you’ll find a plethora of offers with often absurd prices.
- One seller is offering the device for a price of 999.00 Euros and still wants 5.99 Euros for shipping.
- Another seller wants “only” 900 Euros and even generously waives shipping.
- The cheapest offers are still around 655 to 750 Euros.
Only one seller offers the PS5 with disc drive for 499 Euros plus shipping. But that is also exactly the price that a disc version of the PlayStation 5 would cost in regular retail.
That’s why such offers are a bad idea: Anyone who desperately wants a PS5 and hasn’t secured a pre-order should not jump on these offers on eBay. For one, the prices being asked often exceed the retail price of the console by up to double and destroy any value-for-money balance.
Furthermore, there is already a solution for the pre-order disaster, and selected retailers will soon have consoles back up for pre-order. Specifically, for the regular price of 499.99 Euros for the disc version and 399.99 for the console without a drive. Also, you can be sure with providers like Amazon and MediaMarkt that you will actually receive your console and won’t fall for scammers.
