In the survival MMO Rust, there’s an official vehicle for the first time. It’s motorboats, which allow you to speed across the water surfaces of the game and have fun.
The survival game Rust has officially received a vehicle for the first time. Unlike the vehicles previously available, this time it is not a mod, but a fixed, official part of the game. However, instead of cars, pickups, and motorcycles, the developers have implemented a rather unusual vehicle.
What can the boats actually do?
The first official vehicle in Rust is a motorboat. The following rules apply to the boats:
- They require basic fuel
- Boats accommodate one driver and three passengers, who can shoot from the bow
- Boats cannot be built. Instead, they spawn on the shores of the island map
- Up to 64 boats can exist on a server at the same time
- If a boat is left outdoors for 3 hours, it decays. A boat shed that you can build prevents decay.
Fun and stress with boats
With the boats, you can speed around and collect floating wreckage in the water. But that’s not all. Many players have a blast filling their boat with teammates to hunt down other boats or shoot at other gamers from the shore.
This often leads to outrageous boat accidents like in Sea of Thieves, as the embedded video impressively shows. However, some players complain about bugs with the boats.
Sometimes, “phantom boats” are displayed that are not actually in the open game world but are located in another player’s base. If you try to steal them, you might get teleported to the owner’s base and potentially get killed there.
The developers clearly have more balancing and bug fixing to do before the boats truly rock.
Rust is now out of Early Access, but the boss says “We are still not done!”
