A well-known Russian Twitch streamer suddenly lost interest in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare during his live broadcast and just stopped playing. But why?
What happened? Recently, the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was released. Since then, numerous players have been diving into the single-player campaign or having fun in the multiplayer part of the game – for example, in the new Ground War mode for up to 64 players.
The well-known Russian streamer WELOVEGAMES (nearly 365,000 followers) tackled the game’s story and streamed it live on Twitch.
As he progressed through more and more sections of the campaign, the streamer visibly lost interest. At a gruesome execution scene, he paused briefly in silence and then completely stopped.
Why did the streamer stop? The reason was the controversial and, in his opinion, highly exaggerated portrayal of the actions of Russian soldiers, as well as the generally anti-Russian orientation of the storyline. Apparently, the streamer did not want to endure that any longer.
In the mission being played, Russian special forces terrorized, raped, killed for fun, and publicly executed the residents of a fictional city in the Middle East to set an example. The player experiences all of this up close as a CIA agent.
This became too much for the streamer during the mission. When the Russian soldiers callously and even jokingly hanged three villagers publicly, he decided he’d had enough.
This is what the streamer said: After visibly disgusted by the scene, he turned away and remained silent for a few seconds, then ended the session and said: “I also think this is too much (in response to the chat). I don’t want to dwell on it. We call it We love Games, we love games. I don’t like politics in the gaming industry.”
Since some viewers wanted to see what happened next, he continued: “Think what you want. There are plenty of streams of this game; you can check it out there. I don’t want to play anymore.”
He then said, noticeably dejected and resigned: “I thought… I was warned; then they said it would all be okay, don’t worry, it’s just a game.”
Then he briefly let his emotions run free: “But damn, you shouldn’t be talking about Russians like that. Just say there’s an enemy, terrorists, and anti-terror units. And that’s it!”

This is what other players say: A post on Reddit has been controversially discussing this topic since yesterday. The reaction has been received with mixed feelings.
Many users can certainly understand the streamer’s reaction.
User oo-op2 says: “It’s a miracle this game hasn’t been banned in Russia yet.”
NaderZico says: “Didn’t you (developers) say that the story wouldn’t be just black and white?”
Komlz notes: “I played the campaign and noticed that too. I am neither Russian nor American, yet why did they decide on such a biased story and the defamation of Russians?”
And neglera adds: “Damn, he even dressed up and everything. When he then starts the campaign and only sees pure propaganda against his own country – it’s understandable that he’s upset.”

However, many also have no understanding and believe that the streamer overreacted.
As tinypantsondeck writes: “The Modern Warfare series has always had evil Russians as a central plot. You must be new to these games…”
whtevrwt says: “So are we just going to forget that Price has a hard-hitting Russian friend who helps him through the last missions?”
A-way_forward thinks: “Sure, but it’s a stupid opinion if he’s played other CoD campaigns, killed people of other nations, and found that okay.”
And PigpenStrikes is of the opinion: “After ‘No Russian’, you really can’t pretend to expect anything less from a CoD.”

What do you think of the streamer’s reaction? Can you understand it? Or do you also think it is exaggerated?
