Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will be released in just a few weeks on PC (Steam, Epic Games), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. A new trailer introduces one of the characters from the role-playing game. However, the main topic under the video is the price.
What kind of game is this? Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is inspired by classic JRPGs. The role-playing game aims to fill the big gap left by Final Fantasy. Here, you can expect turn-based battles, which are spiced up with a hint of real-time mechanics.
In a new trailer, the developers introduce a member of the expedition that is supposed to put an end to the deadly painter: Sciel is a cheerful and calm person, which seems like a real feat considering the dark, death-filled premise of the game.

The new role-playing game ignores full price
What are fans talking about? Even more than about Sciel’s character, there is discussion under the trailer regarding the price of the game: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 costs only €49.99 at release. Given that Nintendo has raised prices for games on the Switch 2, this is seen as a positive signal by many.
- thegoldenwithatie comments under the trailer on YouTube: “Bro, it costs $40 and Mario Kart costs $90” and adds three skull emojis at the end.
It is important to add that the $90 mentioned by thegoldenwithatie refers to the price for physical Switch 2 games. Digital versions cost $80. Additionally, Expedition 33 costs as mentioned $50 (or €) and not $40 – the difference in prices is still noticeable.
- TheMrGiannisgr also comments: “This game is worth $40 more than any Mario game will ever be worth over $60. The fact that Nintendo has gone up to $90 shows me that going with the PlayStation 5 was the right decision.”
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will be released on April 24, 2025, for the following platforms:
- Steam
- Epic Games Store
- PS5
- Xbox Series X|S (included in Game Pass)
