The popular “We shoot a ball into the goal while driving” game Rocket League (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch) has announced that it will abolish random loot boxes. This is supposed to happen in 2019. It is said that Epic and Fortnite inspired the team. On Twitter, there is discontent against Epic.
In May, Epic Games bought the studio behind Rocket League, Psyonix. Soon, a major change will occur.
What Rocket League says: They state in a blog post that they, along with Epic Games, are committed to the players and want to provide the best possible experience.
Therefore, all paid, random loot boxes will be removed from Rocket League and replaced with a system that shows players in advance what they are buying.
This decision is similar to Epic Games in “Fortnite: Save the World.”
The Rocket Pass Premium, DLC cars, and eSports shop items will remain in the game.
X-Ray Loot Boxes
What about Fortnite: Save the World? In the PvE version of Fortnite, loot boxes still exist. However, the player can see exactly what is inside this loot box beforehand and then decide whether to buy it or not:
- If he buys it, he gets exactly the content he saw beforehand.
- If he does not buy it, he can wait for the reset until a new loot box is offered. Then he can see again what is in it and decide whether to buy the new loot box or not.
How exactly this will be in Rocket League is currently open. Because it is said “Crates are leaving Rocket League” – in Fortnite: Save the World, loot boxes are still in the game, just transparent.
“Epic ruins everything” – these socialists!
How are the players reacting? Those who naively expect players to burst into cheers, because loot boxes are frowned upon, will be disappointed in their expectations.
Under the announcement tweet, the opinions are quite controversial:
- Some are happy: “finally”
- Others say, however, that Epic has ruined not only Fortnite in one week, but also Rocket League.
The arguments for retaining the loot boxes are:
- they are exciting, and you look forward to opening them
- and especially a vibrant trading market
For months, Epic Games and everything they do have been viewed critically within the extended gamer community. Even in Rocket League, the core fans seem to be afraid of changes. Those are now coming.
