Pokémon GO has officially announced Rival Week. It brings 2 new Pokémon and other exciting spawns. We show you all the details.
How long does Rival Week last? It starts on April 13 at 10:00 AM local time. The event lasts for 5 days and ends on April 18 at 8:00 PM local time.
As the name suggests, Rival Week is about Pokémon that compete against each other. During the event, there will also be 2 new Pokémon from Generation 6.
Algitt and Scampisto arrive for Rival Week
These are the bonuses: Everything revolves around rival Pokémon. Accordingly, there are bonuses in raids, quests, and in the wild:
- Algitt and Scampisto appear for the first time in Pokémon GO – They appear in the wild, in raids, and in quests
- The Therian Forme of Landorus appears in 5-star raids
- A Global Challenge is taking place, focusing on raids – If you complete this challenge, you will receive double Stardust for caught Pokémon during the event
- In the wild, Pokémon like Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Makuhita, Meditite, Sengo, and Vipitis will appear
- In 5 km eggs you can find: Machop, Rattata, Elekid, Magby, Makuhita, Meditite, Sengo, and Vipitis
- Raid battles will see monsters like Nidoqueen, Nidoking, Sengo, and Vipitis
- There are special quests featuring rival Pokémon
- Team GO Rocket appears more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons
Similar tasks were known from the GO Fests in 2018 and 2019. Back then, trainers had to solve challenges at the GO Fests and worldwide to unlock special bonuses. Back then, there was triple Stardust.
These are the new Pokémon: Algitt and Scampisto are from Generation 6 and resemble an eel and a scampi. They both have an evolution, although Algitt requires 400 candies to evolve into Tandrak.
Both evolutions, however, do not play a significant role in the meta of Pokémon GO. Wummer, the evolution of Scampisto, learns the charge move Crabhammer, which is quite strong. Thus, it becomes somewhat useful as a Water attacker, but competitors like Kyogre or Kingler are still better.
Is the event worth it? Definitely interesting spawns have been announced. Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee can only appear as shiny since the Kanto Tour in February. You can take your chance and hope for one of the sought-after shinies. Additionally, we probably get the chance at Vipitis. This regional Pokémon does not normally appear in Germany. Vipitis can also be shiny, so one could secure a rare shiny in Germany.
All about regional Pokémon can be found here: All regional Pokémon and where to catch them
Otherwise, after the Global Challenge, there is double catch Stardust. Stardust is the most important resource in the game, so you should take advantage of the bonus.
