The World Championship for League of Legends, the Worlds 2021, starts next week. On this occasion, Riot Games has now released the new anthem “Burn It All Down” with the US rock band PVRIS. An epic music video has also been created that is being celebrated by fans.
What kind of anthem is this? For every World Championship, Riot traditionally releases a song including a video. The video is elaborately animated and generally summarizes the events of the championship from the previous year but also gives a small preview of the upcoming tournament.
Typically, the participants of the respective World Championship are also featured. From last year, for example, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok (T1) or Martin “Rekkles” Larsson (then Fnatic) are included.
The latest video for the song Burn It All Down with the band PVRIS has been available since last night and has already recorded over 3 million views. The fans’ comments are enthusiastic.

Animations impress the fans – “are way too good”
What can be seen in the video? Impressive animations depict numerous LoL pros. The video blends realistic representation with typical elements from LoL and recreates the events of the Worlds 2020.
This is what fans say about the video: The reactions to the new anthem and the accompanying video are almost overwhelming. The animations and the collaboration with the band PVRIS receive particular praise.
According to The Esports Writer, over 100 animation technicians and five studios were involved in the creation of the video. It apparently took five months to complete the video. (via Twitter)
Especially the animations are celebrated by fans, and you can find numerous comments like these examples on YouTube:
- “The animations are incredible! Congratulations to the hundreds of animators who brought this extraordinary vision to life over the last eight months!”
- “What Arcane [the LoL series] and the anthem of the Worlds tell us: The animators got a raise.”
- “League never disappoints when it comes to animation. I wonder what it feels like to see yourself animated as a game character.”
The video has, as of now (September 29, 5:55 PM), around 3.1 million views and over 16,000 comments. Additionally, there are over 320,000 thumbs up, compared to about 6000 dislikes.
Some fans are also joking about which LoL pros are prominently featured in the video.
Pros like Rekkles play a big role – are not even participating in 2021
Why exactly is there mockery? Some fans are amused by the presence of certain pros in the video. For example, Rekkles is one of the main figures, even though he is not making it to the Worlds 2021.
His team could not qualify for the World Championship; G2 Esports is missing in this tournament. This leads to minor discussions and some players amuse themselves about it.
For instance, doublej107 writes: “Riot must have been pretty angry when G2 didn’t make it to the Worlds” (via reddit),
However, The Esports Writer also has a response to this: The role distribution of the players was already determined by Riot and the studio Haoliners back in February.
Apparently, at that time, they expected G2 to qualify for the Worlds 2021 and that Rekkles would also play a role in the upcoming tournament. Clearly, they miscalculated.
When does it actually start? The Worlds 2021 start on October 5 and run until November 6.
