The MMORPG of League of Legends is still deep in development, but it is now sending a sign of life in the form of a new hire. A well-known developer is joining Riot Games.
What kind of sign of life is this? The LoL MMORPG repeatedly lands in our surveys in one of the top spots when it comes to which game you are looking forward to. Yet, the game is neither out nor has there been any gameplay or teaser scenes to glimpse.
The developers at Riot have now clearly confirmed that the project is real. They are sending a new sign of life by hiring the new Senior Game Producer Raymond Bartos. He announced on January 15, 2026, on X.com that he has started his new job at Riot in the MMO team.
While the new developer is excited about the opportunity at Riot, he also brings a lot of expertise with him.

Good Skills for Riot
Who is the developer? Raymond Bartos is no stranger in the MMORPG scene. According to his own statements, he has been working as a developer on Twitch for 15 years and was previously employed as a Lead Producer at Blizzard’s World of Warcraft. He transitioned directly to Riot and their MMORPG team from this position.
Previously, Bartos was also employed at Daybreak Game Company LLC, where he worked on games like Just Survive and H1Z1. The good skills he brings with him will surely be appreciated by Riot, but the community is also reacting to the hire.
How is the community reacting? The community of the Riot MMORPG is excited about the new sign of life in development. Bartos seems to be a good candidate among future players. However, amidst the cheers, there is also considerable skepticism on Reddit.
The previous development of the MMORPG at Riot has been challenging. The project was restarted in 2024 after 3 years of development and sent back to the drawing board. More than two years later, the exact status is unknown.
There are indeed job postings and some provocative advertising for work at Riot, but gameplay or even just a graphic of the game is still missing. The community’s cheers over the sign of life may be premature, as Riot has previously restarted the game after 3 years of development and no one says it can’t happen again.
The LoL MMORPG is also popular due to its few known details. Fans can still hope that their wishes for the MMORPG will come true. However, there is already a large and diverse world with Runeterra. Why the release will not happen before 2027 despite the existing world will be revealed here: Everything we know about the new MMORPG for LoL in 2026
