Riot Games has given a first look at which 2 new champions will be coming to League of Legends in 2022. A marksman and a supporter are planned. The hints are still cryptic – it is speculated they might fit with the new Netflix series.
This is the situation:
- LoL has a sophisticated system for introducing new champions. Initially, only vague hints about the direction the heroes will take are given. Just before the release, Riot Games always publishes more concrete hints, trailers, and ultimately the exact presentation with skills.
- The first new champion, a marksman, is planned for “early 2022.” The second, a supporter, for “a few patches later.”
- The 2 new champions were originally supposed to appear at an event in 2021. However, Riot realized that they did not fit well with the event and has now scheduled them for 2022 – players are speculating that a previously planned event could be related to the Netflix series “Arcane.”
Marksman brings “shooter feel” to LoL
This is what Riot Games says about the first champion: The first new champ has many allusions to a hero that charges with lightning. This is about a kinetic marksman who is always in motion, pulsing with “sparkling conviction.” He plays “the game” at the speed of a machine gun.
Riot Games states that they want to vary the idea of how “auto-attacks” function in LoL with this character. Apparently, for this hero, auto-attacks will take on a special function, similar to Graves, Xayah, or Jhin.
Riot Games says they want to completely turn around the “actual idea” of what auto-attacks mean with him.
The hero is expected to appear “very early in 2022.”
This is what Riot says about the 2nd new champ in LoL: It is apparently a supporter who focuses heavily on the themes of “money, technology, and power.” Riot states: “You can buy anything if you have enough cash.”
There are hints that the new hero can bribe his opponents to attack each other. The supporter apparently can also send people to their death.
The new supporter in LoL is said to be someone who makes calls from the background about how things are going.
The new hero is expected to come “a few patches after the marksman” in 2022.
This is being discussed: On reddit, people immediately have ideas about what the heroes could be like and what role they might take later in LoL. One user believes the marksman could use a kind of “taser” to connect with the opponent and constantly deal damage, but he would need to chase them. This would be a champion without much burst damage, but with a lot of “sustained damage.”
For the supporter, there is a belief he could perhaps use the opposing champions or minions against their own allies and force them into specific actions. The new supporter is being compared to the champ “Winter Wyvern” in DOTA 2.
It is speculated that the new characters could originate from “Piltover” and thereby create a parallel to the new LoL Netflix series Arcane.
