League of Legends is quite a challenging game as a MOBA. You not only have to learn how to play
, but also many things around it. For this, many players also use external programs. However, a specific type of these will now be banned.
Which programs are affected? In League of Legends, there are various external programs designed to help you in and before the game. They automatically display runes and builds, counters against specific champions, or even which skills you should level up first. Many of them also show the current cooldown of ultimates, which Riot is now banning.
It doesn’t matter whether they are manual timers that you start yourself or those that are started automatically. Since March 13, 2025, Riot plans to take action against apps that provide an Enemy Ultimate Timer function.
On x.com, the official account Riot Games Developer Relations posted that they have changed the terms of use, and all third-party apps must remove Enemy Ultimate Timer
or they will be banned.
In a Reddit thread on the topic, timers are discussed in general, and whether more precise jungle timers should be implemented.
Players discuss if remembering jungle times is a skill
What does the community say? While some parts of the community in a Reddit thread ask why such programs are even allowed in a competitive game, a discussion arises about precise jungle timers.
For example, one player wonders why there aren’t official timers for all jungle camps on the map. LettucePlate (via Reddit) replies that tracking the timers and the jungle route has been a skill that distinguishes junglers since the start of the game.
UngodlyPain (via Reddit) responds that jungle is the most important lane, but the one that is played the least. He believes it would be better for the game if the timers were visible to the players.
The user Boemelz (via Reddit) agrees and states that one must then have the skill to utilize the knowledge of the timers. This is a skill that Twitch streamer Agurin is good at.
How important are the timers? Regarding ultimate timers, it can be said that they are extremely useful. Knowing when the opponent has an ultimate ready is essential for lane and team fights. Jungle timers can certainly be debated.
In the past, there were hardly any timers at all. You had to remember when the Drake, the buffs, or the Baron spawns. It’s quite conceivable that Riot will also make the other camps more accessible and easier to track in the future.
What do you think about this? Do you believe it is a skill to keep the timers in your head, or should such information always be visible? Feel free to share your thoughts with us in the comments.
