Tyler “Tyler1” Steinkamp is one of the biggest and most controversial streamers on Twitch. He became known for League of Legends. In a livestream, the developers from Riot Games visited and even gifted him. His reaction was predictably outrageous.
What happened? In a LoL livestream by Tyler1, the developers gifted his viewers a total of 50 subscriptions.
These are subscriptions that viewers can purchase for about 5 dollars to support their streamer and earn various rewards like badges.
Riot Games thus indirectly gifted Tyler1 at least 125 US dollars. This is the minimum value of 50 % of the expenditures that go to the streamer. However, it’s very possible that Tyler1 has even better conditions and receives a higher percentage from Twitch.
How did Tyler1 react to the donation? Instead of immediately thanking Riot Games and celebrating the subscriptions with the viewers, Tyler1 first started insulting the developers and blamed them for his losses in ranked games.
“I don’t want your damn gifts… but thanks”
What does Tyler1 say? The short clip starts with the streamer expressing his amazement at the large number of gifted subs, but then he immediately ridicules it and follows up with an insult:
Riot Games with 50 gifts. Wow. Oh my god, that’s a lot of gifted subs. But you know what’s even more? The amount of LP [League Points in the ranking], that I lost today, you son of a b****.
He gets very close to the camera, so that only his nose and sometimes his eyes can be seen.
He follows up the first insult with more insults directed at the developers.
However, he ends his emotional speech with a short “but thanks”, which makes the whole situation even more bizarre:
You bastards, can you hear me? I don’t want your damn gifts, I want your damn LP… but thanks
Tyler1 was permanently banned in LoL but was pardoned
This is Tyler1: Tyler1 is seen very controversially, which is due to his style of entertainment. The toxic behavior and loud screaming doesn’t sit well with everyone, even though it is his entertainment style. He represents the typically aggressive manner that one often encounters in LoL. It is often unclear whether he is really that angry or just pretending.
However, he is successful with his style and even reached number 1 on Twitch.
The permanent ban: The interesting thing is that, Tyler1 was actually banned forever from LoL by Riot Games in 2016, because he was too toxic.
He was actually only unbanned because he was so popular and an employee of Riot had insulted him harshly. The designer was subsequently fired, and Tyler1 was allowed to return to the game.
Now the streamer celebrates himself even more and even claims that he is so important that Riot can’t ban him. This has some truth to it, as Tyler1 has now become so successful that he has a certain level of impunity.
However, he also has a softer side that he rarely shows. One special gift, however, melted his heart:
