In the MMORPG Rift, there has recently been quite a backlash. Developer Trion Worlds had sold essential resources for endgame for real money in the shop. Due to the significant resistance from players, the resource packs have now been removed from the shop – for the time being.
Recently, the venerable online role-playing game Rift caused some trouble with its players. Since the last update on December 7, 2017, you could directly purchase the endgame resource “Captured Intel” for real money.
The resource was necessary to purchase powerful Tier-2 raid jewelry. Until now, you had to farm Captured Intel painstakingly and were also limited by a weekly cap. The shop version, on the other hand, could be bought infinitely and did not count towards the weekly limit.
For many players of Rift, this was clearly Pay2Win. Accordingly, the discussion in the forums and on Reddit was quite unpleasant.
Controversial resource packs are offline for the time being
The players’ outcry was finally so loud that Trion took action and removed the controversial resource packs from the shop. Community Manager Linda Carlson spoke up in the forum and announced that you can no longer purchase Captured Intel in the shop.
They have reacted to the feedback from the players. The development team will now analyze the data. Next week, the team will then decide whether Captured Intel will return or not. She also thanked the community for the feedback. Only in this way can Trion respond to the wishes of the players and improve Rift.
We can only hope that Trion will soon make a decision that will be received positively by most players.
Rift has had trouble with players before. The new class in Rift plays like from an action MMO, which not every player appreciated.
