The Free2Play MMORPG Rift brings back a popular destination for adventurers with the cult raid Hammerhall. However, extensive renovations had to be made to fit the old raid into the new game.
In a blog post, the developers from Trion Worlds describe in detail what needs to be considered, when a glorious raid from the past wants to still be relevant today. Because Rift has evolved significantly since the days when the Dwarven fortress Hammerhall was popular. Innovations such as Mage tanks would have undermined the mechanics of the bosses if they had not been adjusted. Furthermore, there was a consensus that some former bosses lacked the depth to be exciting opponents today.
Content recycling is therefore not as simple and casual as some players might see from the outside. A lot of hard work was done on Hammerfall.
