Because a teenager in the USA loudly threatened a school shooting during a stream, he got into serious trouble. A judge sentenced him to house arrest and banned him from playing violent games!
When it comes to threats of school shootings, US authorities do not take it lightly. Just recently, there was another devastating school shooting in Parkland, Florida, where 17 people lost their lives.
Therefore, a teenager who live-threatened such a massacre must now face the full force of the law.
“I’ll go on a shooting spree soon!”
A 16-year-old student from Lake Park High School in the suburbs of Chicago, whose name has not been released, is probably not having a laugh right now. The boy had streamed a video on Snapchat while playing a video game. So far, so harmless.
But then he suddenly began to rant about school shootings: “You all should shut up about the school shootings! Otherwise, I’ll do one myself!” He should have thought twice before making that statement, as one of his classmates who saw the stream alerted the authorities out of concern.
There had already been two false shooting threats in the area. Therefore, many locals were on edge.
House Arrest and Gaming Ban!
Last Monday, the police were already at the teenager’s door and took him away. The boy has since been brought before a judge, who immediately acted. The teenager was charged with “Felony Disorderly Conduct.”
This is similar to “public disorder” in German criminal law, but in the USA, such actions are usually punished more severely. According to the defendant’s lawyer, the remark in the stream was not meant seriously.
As a measure, the teenager is now placed under house arrest until further notice. The parents are required to confiscate his smartphone and ensure that the boy does not play any violent games. This arrangement will remain in effect until the next hearing on March 12. If the delinquent is indeed convicted as charged, he could face juvenile detention.
“You can play as much Mario Kart as you want!”
The judicial order only applies to violent games. What game exactly the boy was playing is not yet known. However, it was reported to be a “post-apocalyptic war game.”
The judge added, “You can play as much Mario Kart as you want!” Oddly enough, this game often leads to a lot of frustration and trouble due to its strange interpretation of fairness.
What do you think about the matter? Is the boy being punished too harshly for a seemingly stupid remark? Or should one play it safe in such a case?
Misconduct on the internet can lead to serious consequences. A spam troll on Twitch is now facing jail!
