The road is rocky and difficult, but full of evil grass bushes…?
My journey in Revelation Online begins at a beautiful dreamy lake right in front of a sleepy village called Enthul. So far, I only encounter grass bushes that know how to defend themselves. 100 meters away, a talking egg is being bullied by them, and I save it. As grateful as it is to me, it accompanies me from this point on and gives me hints from time to time (unfortunately in Chinese). So I bounce with a double jump, which was really fun, to the next task.
So spread your wings and fly away…
At level 9, I receive a quest in which I can perform some tricks in the air: I love the ability to float in the air and explore everything. Therefore, the quest took three times as long for me because I first completed somersaults and dives. Later in the game, I will always be able to choose wings – specifically starting at level 29 – and that gives me even more motivation to level up. You heard right: With the partly glowing wings, I can explore and conquer the entire world of Nuanor.
Unlike in Aion, I can fly for as long and wherever I want. No place is safe from me and my wings!
The game strongly focuses on the possibility of traveling your way through the air. Additionally, each character receives special flight skills – which are unique to each – and there really are no flight restrictions. Of course, there are also mounts like horses, balloons, or even giant whales. These can take up to 15 people at once. All this helps increase the freedom of the game. In addition, I can participate in aerial battles as soon as I reach level 29. I imagine it to be a bit unusual but also quite interesting.
The raccoon commands – And I serve soup!
Regarding the dialogues in the game and the introduction to the first quests, I must say that while some dialogues are still in Chinese, I have made steady progress and was able to complete the first “talk-to-the-and-bring-the-something-quests”. After a few tasks where I provided the villagers with soup in a kind of fast food joint, a ceremony begins. And we get to help.
So I slip into chic outfits with my NPC colleagues and distribute “Carp” banners. Just by having a short conversation, I earned myself a level. Still, I find it unfortunate that some – also important dialogue for the quest – is not yet translated, and I can only guess what the lady in the bunny dress wants from me.
Somewhere in the world, there is a mysterious artifact…?
In Revelation, it’s mainly not just about exploring the world of Nuanor but also about finding something. According to a myth, somewhere in the world, a mysterious artifact is hidden that one should track down.
Across the entire world, there are ten different provinces and three larger cities. Each has a castle, while the other regions contain seven more smaller fortresses that can be found either high in the sky or deep in one of the bulwarks. The world of Revelation Online is, by the way, open and can be traveled through continuously.
The three different ways to play Revelation – depending on taste
What excites me at the beginning is the choice between three modes: I can decide whether to control my character with the known WASD keys and lock on to a target, allowing free movement. Or I can control my character using a click-to-move system over hill and dale – comparable to Diablo. If
I don’t enjoy either, I can choose free aiming. Here, I can use my keyboard to control character movements and target any target with the mouse pointer. I can switch between these three modes – depending on my mood – at will.
And I quite like that: The innovative combat system is appealing to me, and also the freedom to choose again and again is great. Especially for those who are still undecided. This way, I can try out all three and choose according to my mood.
Not just monster bashing, but much social interaction
At the beginning, I noticed that the focus is not solely on just monster bashing but on socially interacting and helping the various inhabitants. Additionally, there are also “quick-time events” that personally reminded me of Final Fantasy X. To be more precise, the second part, because in one scene, I fly almost in the air and have to press the Q key at the right moment to continue. In the end, it’s only about getting from point A to point B faster, but the idea loosens up the gameplay right from the start.
Raids, Dungeons, Arenas
Regarding raids and PvP modes, Revelation Online has a lot to offer. I can participate in various raids, including Last-Man-Standing PvP arena, siege battles, and PvE raids – these require up to 20 players – while dungeons entail between 5 and 10. Players can easily join teams with the group finder. Here, I can kill bosses in multiple phases or solve puzzles. To maintain the fun of the game in the long run, there are different difficulty levels: easy, hard, and godlike.
From level 40, it is possible to participate in open-world PvP. Here, attackers are killed, dead friends are avenged, or the base is defended from monsters. More than ten different PvP maps are offered in the game. I can choose from classic battlegrounds to cross-server PvPvE zones.
Pfff, raids, dungeons, I prefer to level my character alone…
Yes, for those who think that way and aren’t advocates of MMOs and prefer to quest alone, the game delivers what it promises. My character levels up very quickly and can be brought to maximum level solely through the quest chain. But beware, in the final version, leveling up won’t be as rapid.
My character continues to rise in level and gains increasingly sheer clothing that seems to defend me better but doesn’t look like it. So I move on, further over sparkling rivers, beautifully animated meadows, and eagerly take on quests. Where my path will lead me now is still in the stars. In any case, I am impressed by Nuanor – the world of Revelation Online and I am eagerly looking forward to my wings, which I hope to receive when I reach level 29.
