Maren ventured into the new Asian MMORPG Revelation Online. How did you like the first beta?
Well, at the beginning, I will try to describe Revelation Online, the new Chinese medieval-themed MMORPG, with three adjectives: entertaining, colorful, and fresh, lively… oops, already one too many.
That’s how it felt to me when I started the game for the first time. I was, let’s say, overwhelmed and briefly overwhelmed by the graphics crashing down on me. By that, I mean many animations, movements, and special effects.
Revelation Online: From Chinese rock music and animations to more animations…
Have you ever been guided through a tutorial by a giant raccoon? Then the start of the Revelation Online beta should surprise you just as much as it did me! The game begins before the raccoon appearance with a huge guy on the start screen, Chinese rock music, and the usual character selection and customization. Here I see impressively animated classes in the preview, from which I can select. If I click on one, it reveals to me its strengths and weaknesses. It’s clear and to the point.
Before it really gets going, I can take a look at how my character will look later with wings and better armor. After what felt like an hour – I’m not great with quick decisions – I selected a class: a sword master.
Why did I choose this? As a DD, I can use quick attacks and also have a high survival skill. At the same time, I focus on my resistance to enemy attacks. And well, I found the way the sword master is designed appealing. I prefer to get close to an enemy and hit “hard and fast” instead of always staying back and firing my projectiles or magic. That makes me feel like a coward.
Boob sizes and their adjustments
While creating my character, I wonder why I can adjust the breast size – let’s say “large” – in so many games. I choose a suitable makeup for my freshly created sword master lady according to her hair color. Then I face the decision of how tall and wide my new heroine should be. Rather a delicate lady or a “big girl” who leaves a lasting impression not only with her sword.
Scythe wielders and sharpshooters – The classes of Revelation Online
My new sword master lady appears vulnerable and weak without her corresponding armor. However, her control and escape abilities are already good at the start and will improve throughout the game. In close combat, my character is extremely resilient due to these skills. As a sword master, I take on the role of the secondary tank and am a melee specialist.
The second class is the Blade Mage. Besides high magic damage, they particularly focus on area spells. Their entire energy is fueled by elemental magic. Therefore, they are easily vulnerable to direct attacks. However, they can, for example, whirl multiple blades around them with a dagger dance. This protects them from attacks and simultaneously inflicts damage. With Blade Ride, they move across a blade that also serves as a skateboard.
The Occultist focuses on area attacks and attacks that inflict damage over a certain period while simultaneously absorbing the enemies’ health points. Additionally, he can heal his allies. With Death Dance, the Occultist spins in a circle with his scythe and unleashes black lightning on the horde. The “Binding of Light” also strikes multiple enemies with lightning bolts.
If you prefer to attack from a distance, choose the Sharpshooter. They are mobile DDs who can hit enemies from a distance with their pistols. Once a tank is in the group, sharpshooters can deal more damage but are slower. While salvo or rocket fire deals group damage, especially the targeted shot inflicts more damage on one opponent. The attack Juggernaut burns enemies with a built-in flamethrower in the weapon.
The Summoner, on the other hand, is active as a healer in addition to his summoning ability and can survive attacks more easily. With their attack “Raging Yeti”, they unleash an angry yeti from a distance on the enemies or move quickly along a summoned area using their life flow.
Last but not least, the so-called Hoplite – the tank in the game – shines particularly in close combat and withstands powerful attacks. With his “Burning Charge”, he fights through enemy masses or causes energy bolts to rain down on them with his shield explosion.
By the way, a new assassin class will be available in China soon. While it is not possible to switch classes freely, I can develop my own playing style within the class through an individual path of power. Depending on how I upgrade the character, I either increase the healing spell or rather the summoning function when summoning.
