6. Mavericks: Proving Grounds (2019)
What was Mavericks: Proving Grounds? The MMO from a British studio wanted to revolutionize the battle royale genre. It was to enable up to 1,000 players to fight on a gigantic map simultaneously.
The game launched in alpha with a 12×12 kilometer map supporting 400 players on July 25, 2019. However, it never left alpha.
What did the MMO fail at? Automaton Games, the company behind Mavericks: Proving Grounds, went bankrupt. The administrator was to ensure that the developer’s existing games found a new home. But there was no room for games under development.
Thus, the battle royale ended before it even started.
What are the best memories? Here too, the best memories lie in the imagination. A massive battle royale with destructible environments, a central city as a social hub, and a bit of lore in the open world sounded very enticing.
Are there alternatives or successors? If you want to battle against other players in battle royale, you will find yourself among the industry giants PUBG and Fortnite.
