What kind of game was it? The MMORPG Dragon’s Prophet revolved around collecting and raising dragons and was somewhat reminiscent of Pokémon. It offered 600 different dragons in all imaginable shapes and colors.
You could tame and train them. They fought by your side, served as mounts, and provided bonuses for crafting or other content in the game.
The game also offered a story that unfolded linearly from start to max level. There were many side quests with standard tasks, guild battles, and various dungeons.
What did it fail at? Dragon’s Prophet was released in 2013, but the MMORPG had many technical shortcomings, which were also criticized by the GameStar colleagues in their release test. They rated the game 74, with only the dragons receiving praise.
The rest was considered mediocre.
In 2017, there was a temporary shutdown and a quick re-release. Along with it came an album to make the collection of dragons even more important. However, the re-release of Dragon’s Prophet did not bring the hoped-for turnaround.
Furthermore, the game also faltered in other countries. It was shut down in America in 2015. In September 2019, the servers of Dragon’s Prophet were shut down in its home country, Taiwan.
What are the best memories? Many MeinMMO readers reported that they played Dragon’s Prophet at release. Especially the taming and riding of the dragons remains a fond memory for many.
Are there alternatives or successors? If you’re looking for a game where you can catch companions and that is reminiscent of Pokémon, the MMO Temtem could be an alternative. It is currently in Early Access and receives good feedback.
